TEFL Zorritos has a fantastic location in the small fishing & surfing town of Zorritos. Zorritos is located on the coast in the far north of Peru, half an hour from the small city of Tumbes and an hour from the border with Ecuador and forty-five minutes north of Mancora; a popular tourist destination and included in our page of things to see and do. Zorritos, however, remains relatively untouched by tourism which adds to its charm and means crowd-free, unspoiled beaches and a super relaxed small-town feel.
Zorritos, named after the little foxes that can be spotted in the hills, is a small fishing town, famous for its beaches, surfing and seafood. The subtropical climate means eternal summer and due to the “El Niño” current the ocean water is warm all year round; locals will argue that it has some of the most magic sunsets in Peru, which we’ve captured in our photos of Zorritos.
Approximately 10,000 people live in Zorritos and its surrounding districts; due to its size and location it offers trainees a unique rural experience, a great way to immerse themselves in the rich culture that is Peru.
The weather, along with the water, is warm all year round – the hottest months being December, January and February which is also the rainy season so the evenings can offer some relief from the heat with a lovely downpour. Summer is also the high season so accommodation can be more difficult to find and trainees are advised to organize everything with anticipation.
LAN Peru operate daily flights from Lima to Tumbes and the flight is less than an hour and a half. Bus travel is the most common form of transport in Peru, and indeed in South America, and many companies have daily services from Lima to Zorritos. The trip takes approximately 23 hours and for this reason its best to book a “bus cama” seat so you will enjoy a big comfortable seat that goes right back like a bed; the stand out companies are Cruz del Sur and Oltursa. Alternatively, there are flights from Quito, Ecuador to Tumbes.
